What is a bank statement request letter?
A bank statement request letter is a short, formal letter from an account holder asking their bank to issue an official statement of account for a specific period. While many banks now offer statements through their app or net banking, a stamped and signed statement on the bank's record is still required for visas, loan and financing applications, audits, and other official submissions. This letter is the standard way to make that request to your branch manager in both the UAE and Pakistan.
When do you need one?
You typically need a bank statement request letter when an embassy, lender, employer or auditor asks for proof of your account activity and balance. Visa officers use it to confirm you can support your trip; lenders use it to assess your income and spending; auditors use it to verify transactions. Because these bodies usually require an officially stamped statement — not just a self-printed PDF — you submit a written request so the branch issues one on its letterhead with a stamp and signature. It is also useful when you need a statement for a period that is no longer available to download yourself.
Format & what to include
Keep the letter brief and factual. Address it to the Branch Manager and state your name, account type and account number (and IBAN if relevant). Clearly specify the exact period you need the statement for, the purpose, and whether you need it stamped and signed for official use. Mention how you would like to receive it — collection, email or post — and provide a contact number so the bank can reach you. Close with a polite thank-you and your signature beneath your name and account number. Sign it by hand before submitting, and carry your ID and account details to the branch.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a letter if I can download the statement myself?
For your own records, a downloaded statement is usually fine. But visas, loans and audits almost always require an officially stamped and signed statement issued by the bank — and a written request is the standard way to obtain that from your branch.
What period should I request?
Match the requirement of whoever asked for it. Visa applications commonly ask for the last 3 to 6 months; loan applications often 6 to 12 months. If you are unsure, request the period specified in the application checklist.
Will there be a fee for the statement?
Many banks provide a recent statement free or for a small charge, with higher fees for older or certified copies. Fees vary by bank and country, so confirm the charge with your branch when you submit the request.
Do I need to submit the letter in person?
Often yes, because the bank needs to verify your identity. Carry your ID (CNIC/Emirates ID/passport) and account details. Some banks also accept requests through net banking or email, but a stamped statement usually still requires a branch visit to collect.
